New Horizons/New Hurdles Town Hall Resources for Educators

These are changing times and teachers are finding creative ways of approaching what is happening in their classrooms and in the nation.

On March 15, BCSS hosted a National Town Hall featuring K-12 educators from across the country (Seattle, Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Knoxville) who shared and learned from each other about the state of their work, any local actions they have taken, and how they are looking into the future. Dozens of other educators were in attendance. Teachers participated in breakout discussions on immigration, LGBTQ+GNC, school funding, unions and labor, and the impact of legislation on curriculum and teaching. From the event, we collected resources and suggestions shared by our presenters and attendees.

The Big City Social Studies is a collaboration between former teachers, teacher education professors, pre-service and in-service PD providers, and district officials who are committed to supporting teachers. We believe that teachers are caring professionals who always strive to provide young people with the best possible education they can.
